Grill 'em all: beef, birds, fish, pork, lamb & veggies~14,000 B.C. ice houses in Mesopotamia~life with a kitchen again and a new fridge~port, marsala, madeira & sherry~yak steak for dinner
Your wonderful newsletter always introduces me to so many new things I want to try. This month, it's cedar-planked grilled eggplant parmesan, stuffed artichokes, morels stewed in cream, and Graham's port. (Not sure about the yak...but maybe?) Speaking of port, we had a chocolate/port potluck one night, and our favorite combo was Skor chocolate toffee bars with port. Chop the Skor bars in small pieces to savor with sips of the port. Try it, bet you'll like it! Thanks for another great edition of Vintage Morels.
Wayne, so happy to see this post in my inbox. And also you made me quite hungry. This time of year pushes me outside too. My Lenten roses are making my heart so happy. Thanks for all this good for thought.
So much here to enjoy. I clearly need a Big Chill refrigerator in a fun color, a Weber grill, fresh artichokes to grill on the Weber, an ice house, and some of those beautiful flowers.
My sister-in-law lives in Carmel Valley, CA. On one visit there we spent hours (it seemed) driving through artichoke fields. When we arrived, Polly had halved and roasted artichokes, and served them with lemon-garlic-butter for dipping. Meanwhile, Claireās brother was pouring martinis from a pitcher. I emerged a happy mess from cocktail hour. The rest of the evening was something of a blur, in fact.
Glad I saw your newsletter, a great read. Iām a big fan of Steven Raichlec

Food not good - stupid autocorrect- though it is good food for thought

Good stuff! And I love the idea of a turquoise fridge.

Fascinating to know the prehistoric origins of the ice box!
