U.S. citizens eat an average of one pound of lamb a year—compared to 85 pounds of beef. However, lamb-loving New Zealanders eat 57 pounds, and Australians, 30 pounds.
I love lamb but in Spain it is grain fed and tastes, frankly, odd. Roman Lamb Stew is worth checking out as a recipe (I am sure you know it, but the Caldesi Rome cookbook does a good varient) and an Easter regular for me. Tom Kerridge does a 5 hour shoulder recipe that is great. I am now salivating and will have to book a trip to UK soon!
Thank you so much for inviting me to your fabulous newsletter. I will be contacting Hoodley Creek very soon and trying out one of your suggested recipes. I also LOVE that you didn't post anything with Cheetos and lamb!
I used to do recipe development for a wine retailer. My recipes paired with the wines they sold. Every time I would recommend a lamb recipe the client would say no. Finally she said, "I don't think people really like lamb." Which led me to believe she didn't.
Ah, man, my two favorite things and none in the house! I also commiserate with you about your leg (sorry that happened!) I had the same experience with a broken foot recently and was horrified that I got very comfortable with not even trying to get up the stairs on my butt for a good wash. It's good for our little corner of the world that you and I finally did....
I'm glad to hear that you are up and about!
